About Us
Almost three decades have elapsed since the formation of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons (SAPS). In this time, the association has not only grown in strength of numbers but also in local and international stature as well.

The association started in 1976 with four founding members. It is open to all plastic surgeons who have fulfilled the Training and Certification Requirements in Plastic Surgery   in the specialty and fulfill the Association's eligibility criteria for admission as outlined in its Constitution.

The Association is actively involved in undergraduate training and post-graduate activities for its members and doctors in general. Lectures are given by prominent visiting plastic surgeons and talks are given by members to advanced surgical trainees, nurses and members of the public to increase awareness of the nature and scope of plastic surgery.

One of the significant milestones in the development of Plastic Surgery in the region was the staging of the 1st ASEAN Congress of Plastic Surgery in Singapore in 1982. This led to the formation of the ASEAN Federation of Plastic Surgeons in 1982. This ASEAN Federation, in turn, was officially recognised as a sub-section of the then Asia- Pacific Section of the International Confederation of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (IPRS) in 1983. At the time, it was the first and only sub- section approved by the IPRS. The ASEAN Federation, to this day, is instrumental in fostering closer ties between the plastic surgeons of ASEAN.

Looking back on its close to three decades of existence, the Association has reason to be satisfied that the objectives of the Association have been realised. A solid foundation has been built for future growth of the Association. Fresh challenges lie ahead but with the continued support of its members, the Association will surely rise to the occasion and will continue to play a significant role in shaping the future of Plastic Surgery in Singapore as well as internationally.
